Tunku Shahabuddin
was educated at the prestigious Malay
College, Kuala Kangsar and Northern
Ireland's Queens
University in Belfast where he graduated with a
Bachelor of Science (Economics) degree.
On his return to Malaysia,
he worked for companies like Esso Standard
Malaysia Ltd and Syarikat Kewangan
Melayu Raya Bhd, a finance company connected to the Malayan
Banking Group. He has wide management experience in finance,
manufacturing, production, trading, construction and the computer
services industries.
Tunku was also the personal
representative of former Minister of Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Mohd Khir Johari, to the
inaugural board of the National Institute of Industrial Research (later
known as Standard Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia or SIRIM). He
was also appointed as the Honorary Counsel General for Austria
in 1972 and served in this capacity until the formal Austrian Embassy was
established.
Tunku was also the Chairman of
the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM), a position he held for more
than 23 years. In 1986, he became the first Malaysian to be appointed Asia-Pacific
region President of the Alliance International de Tourisme.
He is currently the Chairman of the Malaysia-Australia Business Council
(MABC), a position he has held since the Association's inauguration in
1986. He was also a Governing Board Member of the Malaysia Canada
Business Council (MCBC) up to 1992 and a committee member of Malaysia
South-South Association (MASSA) since its inception up to early 1993. He
is currently a committee member of the Selangor
Turf Club.
